Happy February Break!

Good afternoon,
I hope you all had a wonderful week and a Happy Valentine’s Day! I really appreciate all of the kids showing me lots of love yesterday! 😊

After the break in…
  • Reading: We will be reading a variety of fables and discussing their characteristics compared to other folktales.
  • Word Work: Students will be given a new list of vocabulary words on Monday.
  • Writing: We will begin our VIP research. Your child should have the name of the person they will be researching written down in their agenda.

Reminders:
  • When we come back from break we will be celebrating Dr Seuss Week. Please see the schedule below for our fun dress up days!
    • Monday – Fox In Socks Wear Silly or Mismatched Socks
    • Tuesday – The Sleep Book Wear Pajamas
    • Wednesday – Wacky Wednesday Wear Hair Wacky or Wacky Inside Out Clothes
    • Thursday – Oh The Places You’ll Go! Dress as Future Career or Wear Favorite College Attire
    • Friday – Dr. Seuss’ Birthday Dress as your favorite Dr. Seuss Character

*** We are COMPLETELY out of tissues in my class. Noses seem to be running pretty fast this time of year, and I think the kids have a 1 booger per tissue ratio that they strictly follow. Needless to say, we would be very appreciative if you could donate a box (or 2) to our class.

I hope you all have a safe and fun February break! Your child certainly deserves a break, so I hope they are able to get some relaxing time in too! Enjoy!

Week of February 11th Update

Good afternoon parents,
I hope you had a great week!

Next week in…
  • Reading: We will be discussing an author’s reasons for a claim they have written. This week your child was given a pink sheet in their agenda that should be signed that will update you on the progress of their 25 Book Challenge.
  • Writing: We will be looking at paired passages and answering questions using information from both passages.
  • Word Work: We will be discussing quotation marks and when they should be used. There will be an assessment on Friday. Students will also be assessed on their lesson 13 vocabulary words on Friday as well. If you know your child will not be here or will be checked out early next Friday, please let me know so I can have them take their assessments before they leave. I would hate to have them come back Monday after the break and have to remember what we talked about 2 weeks before! Thank you 😊

Reminders:
  • On Thursday we will be having our Valentine exchange. We have 26 students in our class. If your child is going to pass out Valentines, please make sure they have enough for everyone in the class. Students are not required to make a Valentine box, unless they want to make one! A bag will do just fine if that’s the route you would prefer to take!
  • Students should have their Homework Response #13 completed by Monday.

If you have any questions, please let me know!

Week of February 4th Update

Good afternoon parents,
What a week! Threats of snow, then no snow! Even though the day was uneventful with the weather, I am always thankful to err on the side of caution when it comes to the safety of our students. However, I hope it did not put you all out too much and that you were able to make the most of our extra day off!

Next week in…
  • Reading: We will be discussing how to integrate information from two texts to speak and write knowledgeably about the topic.
  • Writing: We will be practicing using the RACE strategy with paired texts.
  • Word Work: Students will take their relative pronoun quiz on Monday. As I mentioned previously, students will be able to use the reference sheet on the assessment. However, they should still practice using these relative pronouns at home to help them study as they can still be a little tricky, even with help! We will also discuss relative adverbs next week. Thankfully, these are a lot easier than the relative pronouns! SHEW! Students will also receive their next list of vocabulary words. The front side of the vocabulary activity sheet will be due on Thursday.

Reminders:
  • Please make sure your child completes their Homework Response #12.
  • Next Friday, February 8th, our class will be able to have a “Pop & Read” day. The students earned a class reward and voted on this to be their “prize”. Please send your child to school with a special drink on Friday. This drink should have a screw on lid. The drink does not have to be a soda, it could be a Gatorade, Powerade, or other drink. Please NO red drinks as this stains very easily!
  • Valentine’s Day Information: An informational sheet will be coming home next week, but for those of you that like to plan ahead I wanted to fill you in on our Valentine’s Day plans. We will be exchanging Valentines in class on Thursday, February 14th. We have 26 students in the class, and if students choose to bring Valentine’s then they must bring one for everyone. Please do not address Valentine’s to individual students, your child can just sign their name for who the Valentine is from. We will have a parent send in a treat for the class to share after our exchange.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions. Enjoy your weekend!
