Week of February 4th Update

Good afternoon parents,
What a week! Threats of snow, then no snow! Even though the day was uneventful with the weather, I am always thankful to err on the side of caution when it comes to the safety of our students. However, I hope it did not put you all out too much and that you were able to make the most of our extra day off!

Next week in…
  • Reading: We will be discussing how to integrate information from two texts to speak and write knowledgeably about the topic.
  • Writing: We will be practicing using the RACE strategy with paired texts.
  • Word Work: Students will take their relative pronoun quiz on Monday. As I mentioned previously, students will be able to use the reference sheet on the assessment. However, they should still practice using these relative pronouns at home to help them study as they can still be a little tricky, even with help! We will also discuss relative adverbs next week. Thankfully, these are a lot easier than the relative pronouns! SHEW! Students will also receive their next list of vocabulary words. The front side of the vocabulary activity sheet will be due on Thursday.

Reminders:
  • Please make sure your child completes their Homework Response #12.
  • Next Friday, February 8th, our class will be able to have a “Pop & Read” day. The students earned a class reward and voted on this to be their “prize”. Please send your child to school with a special drink on Friday. This drink should have a screw on lid. The drink does not have to be a soda, it could be a Gatorade, Powerade, or other drink. Please NO red drinks as this stains very easily!
  • Valentine’s Day Information: An informational sheet will be coming home next week, but for those of you that like to plan ahead I wanted to fill you in on our Valentine’s Day plans. We will be exchanging Valentines in class on Thursday, February 14th. We have 26 students in the class, and if students choose to bring Valentine’s then they must bring one for everyone. Please do not address Valentine’s to individual students, your child can just sign their name for who the Valentine is from. We will have a parent send in a treat for the class to share after our exchange.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions. Enjoy your weekend!
