Happy Holidays!!!

Good afternoon!
Wow! I cannot believe we are half way through the school year! Where does the time go? I have enjoyed being your child’s ELA teacher, and I am looking forward to finishing out the year with them.

As we get into the new year, it is a good time to set some goals with your child. Please make sure your child is reading at home each night. It is so crucial that the kids read for 2 hours each week, or more! This would be about 20 minutes each night. If your child has practice or something going on one day during the week, they should double up another day. It’s hard for me to hold them accountable at home, so your help with this would be greatly appreciated!

Also, your child is going home with a Winter Wish List. We have noticed that many students are quickly running out of supplies that they use daily. Some of which being pencils, glue sticks, and sticky notes. Please check your child’s individual list for supplies they need and refill them over the break if you can! We would really appreciate it!

I hope you and your family have a fun, wonderful, and very restful holiday break. I will see you all in 2018!

Week 17 Update

Good afternoon!
Only 8 more school days until break! Woohoo!!!

Reminders:
·       If your child was unable to attend the Penguin Patch on Monday, there will be a makeup day for all students this Monday, December 11th. This will be the very last day they can shop. Please send in money with your child and designate how much money they should be spending on each family member.
·       We will be having our class book exchange during our holiday party on December 15th. Please send in a wrapped book with your child no later than Wednesday, December 13th. Girls will be exchanging books with girls, and boys will be exchanging books with boys. So, as you are finding books, please find one that you think a 4th grade boy or girl would enjoy. Books do not have to be brand new, however they must be in good condition. Remember, this will be a new book to another child.
·       Our holiday party will be on December 15th at 12:00. You are welcome to come join us for some holiday fun!
·       Our reading focus for next week will be text structures and our writing focus will be opinion writing.
·       We are finished with vocabulary and the no excuse words for this year! We will pick back up in January.

I hope you all make it home safely on this crazy day! Have a great weekend!

Week 15 Update

Good afternoon!
I cannot believe that Thanksgiving break is already here! We had so much fun with our fall centers today. Your child brought home some pumpkin play dough today that they made, if they have it in their backpack you will want to take it out and keep it in the refrigerator so it does not mold! We don’t want smelly backpacks when we return from break!

Reminders:
  • ·         I will be placing a Scholastic Book order on November 27th. Books are GREAT Christmas gifts for the kiddos, and you can find some really great deals on books through Scholastic. We will also be doing a book exchange at our holiday party, so this is a great way to get a book! Girls will be exchanging books with girls, and boys will be exchanging books with boys.
    •        If you would like to order a book go to https://clubs.scholastic.com/home and type in our class code Q79JX. When you order through our class, we get new books for our classroom library!
  • ·         The next No Excuse Words and Vocabulary quizzes will be on Friday, December 8th.
  • ·         Our reading focus after the break will be dramas, and we will continue to learn about opinion writing.

I hope you all have a wonderful, and restful Thanksgiving. If you are traveling, safe travels! I am thankful for each of the little turkeys I get to teach each day! They make my heart happy!

Week 12 Update

Good afternoon,

Here are some reminders:
  •        We are partnering with Kennesaw Mountain High School to do a canned food drive. I have attached information about the Canned Food Contest. Please print this out and send it in with your can donation.
  •         Our celebration for Veterans is on November 10th at 9 AM. All 4th graders will be participating. Please invite any veterans you know to join us so we can thank them for their service!
  •        Students will be quizzed on vocabulary words from lessons 1-5 on Friday, November 3rd. Students were given a list of specific words that they need to study, along with a list of the roots and prefixes they need to know. Students will only be required to use the words in a sentence. So, please encourage your child to write the words in a sentence by themselves. This helps the kids learn how to use the words in context.
  •         Their no excuse words quiz will be on Friday, November 3rd as well.
  •      Our reading focus for next week will be point of view.
  •           Our writing focus for next will be to complete our first opinion essay.

Have a great weekend! If you have any questions, please let me know!
